We have had such an amazing month, full of different activities that we can't wait to share with you. The whole gang have had a total ball, and there's plenty more to come in September too.
Let's start by going back to the end of July - we held an interactive session called 'Swing & Spray' with the adults and children. We set up a canvas for each person and had fun with abstract paint pouring, it was totally mad and the results were amazing. Everyone got to keep their abstract creations.
On the 2nd August we were invited to Universal's head office in Tottenham Court Road. We got to have a private viewing of the new Minions movie, 'The Rise of Gru' which everyone absolutely loved. Afterwards we were treated to an amazing lunch and lots of goodies.
The next day we stayed in the Art Centre and everyone got on with various different projects, we can't resist adding in this amazing piece by Naz - done for our upcoming September exhibition.
The following week, on the 10th August, we all got into a minibus and made our way over to Newmarket, where we were invited to spend the day with some dear friends of the charity. Stephen took us to Newmarket Horse Racing Museum, where the gang got to stroke some horses and make keyrings. We then had a beautiful garden lunch and did some colouring.
On the 16th August we went to visit the Tower of London 'Superbloom' where we all got a bit wet in the pouring rain, but we managed to get by with some new umbrellas and raincoats from the gift shop! Afterwards we went to a nearby pub for fish goujons and chips, finished off with a 99 ice cream and strawberry sauce!
The following day, we spent a couple of hours in the morning getting on with our activities in the centre before heading out to London Shuffle Club, for some shuffle board. We all love bowling so thought it would be really fun to try - and it was! Everyone did really well and we all had an amazing time.
Coming towards the end of a fun filled August, our last week of activities commenced with our annual day trip to Caroline's mums and sisters house on the 22nd August. We had a day of crafts in the kitchen, including collaboratively colouring a giant nature themed picture and creating some colourful bead coasters (whilst eating cake). We also had lots of time in the garden climbing the tree and foraging for blackberries.
To round off the month, on Wednesday 24th August, the adult group were invited to The Hart Hotel in Shoreditch for a workshop and lunch. It was lovely to meet the team there and we have plans to keep in touch. We did jewelry making and drew portraits of each other, which as you can imagine, was hilarious.
Coming up in September....
At the beginning of September, in memory of our dear friend and member of AFA, Harvey, the adult group are heading to the West End to watch Lion King, which was a life long dream of Harvey's. The group are very much looking forward to this, and will be missing Harvey, like always.
On Wednesday 14th September, between 3-6pm we will be having our 21st Anniversary exhibition, based on the theme of London. This will also include a wild animal show at 4.45pm. Please do come down to the centre, everybody is welcome!
We will of course be doing lots of other fun things in September, so will tell you all about it next month.
On a slightly more serious note, we are still in need of a lot more fundraising for this year. If you think you can help at all please do contact us! Thank you!
